Keeping up to date on School Law Issues

Phil Johnson, partner at JGSM, attended the 2011 School Law Seminar presented by National School Boards Association's Council of School Attorneys from April 7 – 9, 2011 in San Francisco, California. Presentations were made by national school law experts on timely school law issues such as labor relations, employee grievances, bullying and harassment claims against school districts, and hiring and supervising athletic coaches.

Phil also attended the Spring Conference of the Washington Council of School Attorneys at Puget Sound ESD in Renton, Washington on April 15, 2011. Presentations included staff-student boundaries, legislative updates, and student privacy.

Phil has a practice emphasis in school law, employment law, real property issues, and business law.

Advising Young Families for the Future

Aaron Harris, an associate attorney at JGSM, presented on the topic of estate planning for families with young children on March 9, 2011, at the East Wenatchee club of Mothers of Preschoolers. Aaron has been with JGSM since 2006 and has a practice emphasis in estate planning, probate and family law.

Keeping Current in Employment Law Issues

Phil Johnson, a partner at JGSM, attended a conference on Labor Law and Labor Arbitration sponsored by the Labor Arbitration Institute, which was held March 4, 2011 in Seattle. The conference included presentations by experienced labor arbitrators on subjects such as discipline and discharge, insubordination, and contract interpretation. Phil has a practice emphasis in employment law, school law, real estate law and general business law.

Local Bar Association President

Danielle R. Marchant, partner at JGSM, has been appointed as the next Chelan-Douglas County Bar Association President. Her term begins in May 2011. JGSM has a long history of supporting our local bar association. Phil Johnson and Robin Gaukroger have also served as president of the Chelan-Douglas County Bar Association. Contributing to the professionalism of the Chelan-Douglas County Bar Association is just one more way that JGSM serves our community.
